HAPPY PEOPLE
A monthly newsletter to keep you smiling
by Coach Jille Bartolome
NOTES
FROM YOUR COACH This month, let’s take a look at
a controversial step on the road to happiness. Becoming Incredibly
Selfish. WHAT! SELFISH can’t be a good thing can it? Yes,
it can be. First lets look at this loaded little word. Webster defines
selfish as ‘caring unduly or supremely for oneself; regarding
one’s own comfort, advantage, etc. in disregard, or at the
expense of that of others.’ This definition is not what I
am talking about here. In fact, it is imperative that you let that
definition go, especially the part about “at the expense of
that of others.”
For our purposes, Selfishness or being SELFFULL is the filling
up of your spirit and your self from the inside so that you can
become more generous and supportive of others than you have ever
been before. When you become SELFFULL you are able to put yourself
first, you attract people into your life who are not needy and you
get a lot more of what you want, more often.
There is a buzz term in coaching that we throw around a great deal
that I want to share with you. Extreme Self Care. It implies taking
care of yourself to the extreme. I’d like to invite you to
look at 10 areas of your life where you can apply extreme self-care.
Stress elimination, environment and family, pleasure, well-being,
support and experts, ingestion, appearance, sustainability, daily
rituals, and special care items. So, over the next month, spend
some time doing something very, very selfish. Pick one or two and
set about extremely taking care of yourself. Let me know how it
feels.
Part of my extreme self-care is that each Tuesday and Thursday,
I join an amazing group of women for a Palates class out on the
end of a beautiful pier on the Bay where I live. The vistas are
amazing, the conversation is light and fun and it truly feels like
a mini spa vacation in the middle of my week. On Thursdays, we include
a little brunch after class, complete with a glass or two of champagne
and a toast to life, love, friendship and health!

THOUGHT
OF THE MONTH
Take Excellent Care of Yourself!
“A human being’s first responsibility is to shake
hands with himself.” Henry Winkler
Contrary to popular opinion, we are a world of givers, but some
of us are so busy giving a hand to everyone else that we no longer
know who we are. Our true purpose in life has taken a back seat
to the happiness of our family and friends. The only way we can
enjoy the ride with them is to take the time to replenish our own
spirits, too.
Pamper yourself. Set aside time every week and do something special
for yourself. It might be getting a manicure or curling up in your
pajamas with a good book.
Start saying “yes” more often to your own agenda instead
of always saying yes to everyone else’s first. It’s
perfectly fine to make your needs a priority.

QUESTIONS
OF THE MONTH
The language of coaching is questioning. So, each month I
leave you with a question or two that you can ask yourself which
is designed to help integrate the message of the newsletter. To
best utilize the value of this question, get a journal or notebook,
write the question in it and take a few days to consider it. Then
write the answer in your journal. I invite you to share your learning
with me.
How well do you take care of yourself in relation to body, mind
and spirit?
How will you hold yourself accountable for doing your daily, weekly
self-care?
When is it ok to put yourself first?
With Love
